I recently found myself packing everything I owned into far too few busted up boxes and hauling them (crammed in the back of a horse trailer, no less) away to a new home. At the time I was pretty fumed about having to move in the first place, but after a few short weeks in my new place, I've once again found myself saying "everything happens for a reason".
This school semester at Paier is so close to its closing. Just a few more finals to spit out and then - SUMMER. Oh, glorious summer. Inspirational as ever, considering I would have rather bundled myself up in fleece and hibernated for the last 6 months than deal with the snow we were given this past winter. No matter - finally I can set up my paints in the warmth of the sun and the beauty of its lighting and just PAINT. In addition to the changing of seasons (and homes), I have some new prospects that are very promising, and I'm hopeful that my break into the big art scene is right around the corner. Only time will tell, I guess. But while we're waiting for this monumental event, I'll be doing some BIG things over the next few months that I'm EXTREMELY excited about. I'm so anxious to start them and get this show on the road! I'll also be leaving all my readers hangin' until the pictures are made available. =P Thats all for now, folks. PEACE AND LOVE. Ah. The pungent smell of year old turpentine, the musty scents of a worn student lounge, and the sweet smell of Mudslide coffee. Yep. It's the start of a new semester at Paier.
Actually, we're about 3 weeks in at this point, but no less, the unmistakable smells of Paier have yet to disappoint my expectations of inspiration. So this semester I decided to take a little bit of a different approach to my thesis. Sticking with the horses, no doubt. But this time I'm basing my pieces more on the spiritual connection between a woman and her horse. Why is that bond always associated with women and not men? What is it about horses that makes women desire to be around them, to be on them, to experience the freedom of galloping down a wooded trail or along the crashing ocean waves? Why does such a connection exist? Despite my own intense love for equines, my inspiration here came from a menagerie of different sources and conversations. I'm currently reading a book called "The Tao of Equus" by Linda Kohanov. Its the story about how the author found a horse that changed her life (blah blah, you can all assume the outcome). But I'm finding the book to be a perfect road map of where I'd like my thesis to go. "The Tao of Equus reveals the transformative, healing power that is implicit in the human-animal bond, and is a startling challenge to anyone wishing to limit consciousness to humans." — Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Healing Beyond the Body and Reinventing Medicine The book is quite a good read, and I highly recommend it to anyone with a love for animals, especially horses. My pieces I plan on perusing this semester will focus on the raw foundation for a woman's reliance on the horse. It is not about riding or using them as tools, except to obtain a better connection to the world and the nature around us. I believe that horses bridge the gap between our own conscious and our subconscious, as I have experienced first hand that they have the ability to recognize and reproduce the emotions we don't even realize we display. Horses. REALLY!? WHERE?! Yep, I'm obsessed. Sorry. So I switched my concept for my Fine Art Thesis class to horse studies. I have no idea where this "exploration" will bring me, but that's what its all about, right? I'm taking this as an opportunity to expand and develop my life-long love of equines and enhance my ability to draw them. Definitely stoked. So if that's not enough horse for ya, here's some more. I just got a call from a farm that I applied for a job at, and totally nailed the position! SWWEEET. Three horses, nineteen donkeys, and a menagerie of other poopy-smelling livestock to take care of on a bajillion acre farm stuck between Nowhereville and Nothingland. I'm really not that sarcastic in my enthusiasm. I really wanted this job! =] Ok, so I have just one more thing to top it all off. A video! Yours truly, a montage of a billion clips of me and the horse I've been lucky enough to stumble upon earlier this summer. His name is Cazador and he made my summer fantastic. Consider it a preview of how I spend my time when I'm not painting till my eyeballs pop out! Enjoy! P.S. Sorry for the crappy video quality..this was my first time using the program (which I love) but it was a learning process. Hello Friends! I'm you're JennaLovesArt Girl! Peace and Love, Jenna Hey folks! I can't tell you how excited I am to have finally launched my official JennaLovesArt page! This was a long time coming, and many primary portfolio pages have added up to this. Now that its finally done, I'll do my best to get on here once a week or so to post some updates on what goes on in the world of Jenna's art. =] Speaking of which, I would have loved to post a video blog to celebrate the new website creation, but my technological illiteracy has gotten then best of me there. I'll see if I can't figure it out somehow. I'm also hoping to post a sweet new video of my latest work. I'm not quite done with it yet, but pretty close. Here's a sneak preview image of the work in progress: Super excited for this one...its completely experimental, but I've been ADDICTED to it since I started it less than a week ago. Hopefully I'll be able to make a sweet video to launch with the addition to my drawing page ;)
I also started my fall semester at Paier this week and have lots of exciting classes. I'm sure I'll have tons to tell about this year and the events to come. Anyway, thats all for now. So I guess in conclusion to my very first blog entry on JennaLovesArt,com, please spread the word and post my link EVERYWHERE! PEACE AND LOVE! |
